Forming and serving Youth Ministry in England and Wales

“Heart to Heart” – volunteer conference 2011

At the beginning of 2011 over 130 young volunteers gathered at The Hayes Conference Centre in Derbyshire for the annual Volunteers Conference. This impressive group of Youth Ministry Teams throughout the Church in England and Wales work in Catholic Youth Retreat Centres and on Outreach Projects. Directors and other staff also took part in the Conference, which had the theme of ‘Heart to Heart’.

Reflecting on the message of Pope Benedict XVI given during his visit to the UK, the Conference also had as a focus for prayer the National Symbol for Youth Ministry. The symbol-rich artwork of the Candle Stand was blessed by His Holiness on the Piazza of Westminster Cathedral. Fr David O’Malley SDB fed everyone with his own thoughts and reflections, nourishing all for their spiritual journey and for their work and ministry. Over the few days there was a great mix of Workshops, Prayers, Liturgies and a Ceilidh, culminating in a joyful celebration of the Eucharist.
